Primordial Soup - A Recipe

The soup theory was proposed in 1929 when J.B.S Haldane published his influential essay on the origin of life in which he argued that UV radiation provided the energy to convert methane, ammonia and water into the first organic compounds in the oceans of the early earth. So let's think about how we might prepare the primordial soup:

Ingredients:
  •  One ocean of water
  •  Sunlight (as available)
  •  Organic materials from space: amino acids, fatty acids, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, other hydrocarbons as needed.
Dissolve organic materials in ocean, let simmer in sunlight for up to a billion years. Makes large numbers of prebiotic cells.

Enjoy!
